Marie practices in the areas of business law and immigration law. She is admitted to the bar of the Supreme Court of Illinois. She was previously licensed by the Law Society of Upper Canada as a foreign legal consultant in Ontario, Canada. Marie completed her undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice and Public Policy from the University of Guelph, and earned her Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree at the Western Michigan University Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 2009, followed by a certificate in International Human Rights Law from the University of Oxford. She completed her legal internship in-house at Anheuser-Busch Inbev/Labatt Breweries of Canada and then worked for several years at Cara Operations Ltd (now Recipe Unlimited Corporation) in Canada before moving to the United States after getting married.
Marie has handled a range of immigration matters, including family based sponsorship petitions, adjustments of status, citizenship and naturalization applications.
In business matters, she has assisted companies from their initial LLC formation, to contract drafting, trademarking and litigation. She has experience dealing with issues such as intellectual property infringement, breach of contract, mechanics liens, criminal harassment and noise/light nuisances.
She has provided pro-bono legal services to prison inmates concerning issues relating to prison conditions, FOIA requests, and concerns regarding medical care and access while incarcerated.
